Japanese Woodland Water Garden - The Dojo
There was already a wooden building on site, but this was neither in-keeping with the new design brief nor in very good condition. A new Dojo* was built in a position overlooking the small lake and the remains of the Victorian Brick Boathouse.
The new Dojo had large windows giving fantastic views over the water to the trees beyond, and was perfect as a place of relaxation, mediation and the practicing of martial arts.
Once this was in place we brought in the heavy machinery to demolish and dispose of the old building, leaving a clean and calm space to continue with the landscape design.

* A Dojo is translated from the Japanese as 'a place of the way'. It is a training hall for traditional Japanese arts, including martial arts. Literally, do means way and jo means place. It is a place for meditation, relaxation and training. |
